Most installed fences cost $20 to $60 per linear foot in 2026, or $3,000 to $9,000 for 150 feet. Those are national figures. What you pay in Tucson depends on local labor, the material, how hard the ground is to dig and whether the fence ties into a block wall that is already there.
Price ranges are national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026, not our own quotes. Tucson labor, material prices and the ground on your lot move the real number up or down. Last checked October 2026.

How much does a 6-foot wood privacy fence cost?
The national range for a 6-foot privacy fence is $25 to $60 per foot installed. The table below shows totals by length for a typical fence at $20 to $60 per foot. A tall solid fence takes more lumber and heavier posts, so expect the upper part of each row. In Tucson many wood fences are hung on steel posts, which changes the material cost.
| Fence length | Typical installed cost |
|---|---|
| 50 feet | $1,000 to $3,000 |
| 100 feet | $2,000 to $6,000 |
| 150 feet | $3,000 to $9,000 |
| 200 feet | $4,000 to $12,000 |
What is the cheapest fence to have installed?
Chain link. It starts near $9 per foot in the national figures. For privacy at the lowest cost, look at a plain wood board fence or chain link with slats. For keeping a large dog in the yard on a budget, 5 or 6 foot chain link does the job, and on a rural lot wire field fence on steel posts costs less again.
Is black aluminum cheaper than wrought iron or vinyl?
It is cheaper than wrought iron and close to vinyl. The national ranges are $25 to $75 per foot for aluminum, $50 to $85 for wrought iron and $30 to $60 for vinyl. In Tucson most of what people call wrought iron is welded steel with a powder coat. It is strong and common here. Aluminum is lighter and does not rust where sprinklers wet it.
How much extra does a gate cost?
Each gate is priced on its own, not by the foot. The width, the material, the hinges and the latch decide it. A single walk gate is the least. A double RV gate or a driveway gate with an operator is the most. A gate set into a block wall also needs posts or steel anchored to the masonry. We list every gate as a separate line.
How much extra for a slope, brush or an old fence?
We price those after we see the yard, because they vary too much to guess. In Tucson the usual extras are breaking through caliche or rock for each post hole, removing and hauling the old fence, clearing mesquite, prickly pear or cholla off the line, and stepping the fence down a foothills lot.
I got three quotes and they are far apart. Which one is realistic?
The realistic one is the quote whose written scope matches the job you described. Lay them next to each other. Check the footage, the height, the material and its gauge or grade, post size and depth, how caliche is handled, the gates, removal of the old fence, permits and cleanup. A quote far below the others has usually left one of those out. Check too that each company holds an Arizona Registrar of Contractors licence.
Does a fence add value to my home?
A solid, tidy fence or wall makes a house easier to sell, mainly to buyers with dogs, children or a pool. It rarely pays back its full cost. For questions about property taxes, ask the Pima County Assessor's Office, which decides how improvements are valued.
